NFCA Ogun Champions Leadership Excellence with Record-Breaking Coaches Summit



There was energy, passion, celebration, and powerful football conversations in the air as the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association successfully hosted its highly anticipated Leadership Summit and Leadership Awards at the prestigious Babcock University on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

What was expected to be a major gathering eventually turned into a massive football movement as over 170 football coaches from different local governments across Ogun State converged at the CIBN Banquet Hall for the one-day event themed “Igniting Greatness.”

From grassroots coaches to experienced tacticians, academy owners, football administrators, and technical minds, the summit brought together one of the largest assemblies of football coaches seen in Ogun State in recent years.

The atmosphere inside the venue reflected the importance of the event from the very beginning. Coaches exchanged ideas, reunited with colleagues, built new connections, and listened attentively as top football figures delivered impactful lectures and leadership insights.

Among the dignitaries present were respected CAF instructor Baba Adeshina and newly appointed Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari, both of whom received special Leadership Awards in recognition of their immense contributions to football development in Nigeria.

Their presence added prestige and inspiration to an already historic gathering.

One of the major highlights of the summit was the keynote lecture delivered by Folorunso-Ako Oladimeji, a PhD holder from Babcock University.

His lecture focused on leadership excellence, personal growth, and the importance of vision in football management and coaching administration.

Participants listened with keen attention as practical lessons on leadership, discipline, communication, and organizational growth were shared throughout the session.

One of the emotional highlights of the event came when former Ogun State chairman Olaseinde Bankole, popularly known as “Zico,” was specially honoured for his service and dedication to the association.

The recognition was presented by the newly elected chairman as a symbol of appreciation for the foundation and contributions made during his tenure.

The moment drew applause from coaches and stakeholders who acknowledged his impact on football coaching development within the state.

Speaking during the summit, the newly elected chairman of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Victor Damilola Agbagu, challenged coaches to embrace continuous learning and professionalism in modern football.

He emphasized the importance of understanding players’ contracts, football administration, and evolving tactical systems in today’s game.

According to him, coaches who fail to improve their technical and tactical knowledge risk being left behind in the rapidly changing football industry.

His message resonated strongly with participants, especially younger grassroots coaches eager to grow within the profession.

The state training officer, Dennis Owumi, alongside his assistant, also stressed the importance of leadership qualities in football management.

They noted that beyond tactics and formations, leadership remains one of the biggest factors influencing player discipline, team unity, and long-term success in football.

Their presentation reinforced the summit’s central message  that football coaches must become strong leaders capable of inspiring positive change both on and off the pitch.
