The road to the 2027 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Nationwide will begin in earnest as 12 ambitious clubs converge on Aba, Abia State, for the 2026 NWFL Nationwide Competition, where promotion, pride, and the future of women's football will all be at stake.
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) officially confirmed that the third-tier Nationwide will take place from August 15 to August 23, 2026, with the tournament serving as the gateway for clubs hoping to climb into the country's second division.
With only two promotion tickets available, every match promises to be fiercely contested as clubs battle for a place in the 2027 NWFL Championship.
Aba to Welcome Nigeria's Rising Women's Football Clubs
According to a statement signed by NWFL Media Director Samuel Ahmadu, the competition will feature 12 qualified teams drawn into four groups of three.
The participating clubs represent different regions of the country, highlighting the continued expansion of women's football at the grassroots level.

The winners from each group will progress to the semi-finals, where victory will guarantee automatic promotion to the 2027 NWFL Championship, making the semi-final fixtures the defining matches of the tournament.
The tournament will begin on Saturday, August 15, with the arrival of participating teams and a mandatory pre-match meeting.
Competitive action starts on Sunday, August 16, with the opening round of group-stage matches, followed by the second and third rounds on August 18 and August 19, respectively.
Following a rest day, attention will shift to the semi-finals on Friday, August 21, where the winners will secure promotion before meeting in the Nationwide final on Sunday, August 23 to determine the overall champions.
Speaking ahead of the competition, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, described the Nationwide as an essential part of the league's development pathway.
She noted that the competition continues to provide ambitious grassroots clubs with the opportunity to progress through Nigeria's women's football pyramid while showcasing emerging talents capable of competing at higher levels.
Shabi also expressed confidence that Aba would provide an excellent stage for another successful edition of the tournament, while commending the Abia State Government, the Local Organising Committee, and other stakeholders for supporting the event.
She further urged all participating clubs to uphold professionalism, discipline, and fair play throughout the competition.
Over the years, the NWFL Nationwide has served as the launching pad for several clubs that have gone on to establish themselves in higher divisions of Nigerian women's football.
For the 12 teams heading to Aba, the mission is straightforward but demanding, survive the group stage, win the semi-final, and secure one of only two coveted promotion places.
As the countdown begins, excitement continues to build around what promises to be another fiercely competitive edition of the NWFL Nationwide.
For some clubs, Aba will be the place where dreams become reality. For others, it will mark the beginning of another journey. But by August 23, only one team will be crowned champions, while two clubs will celebrate promotion to the 2027 NWFL Championship, taking a significant step closer to elite women's football in Nigeria.
