The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially confirmed Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as the host city for the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six Finals, marking a historic first for the Garden City.
The season-ending championship playoff, which will determine Nigeria’s women’s football champions, is scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 14, 2026, at the iconic Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
For the first time in the history of the competition, Port Harcourt will stage the prestigious Super Six tournament, where Nigeria’s six best women’s clubs will battle for domestic glory and continental qualification.
Announcing the decision, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Ms. Modupe Shabi said the league is excited to bring its flagship competition to Rivers State.
According to Shabi, the decision reflects the strong commitment of the Rivers State Government toward supporting women’s football development in Nigeria.
“The Rivers State Government has consistently demonstrated strong support for women’s football and successfully hosted our Annual General Assembly last October,” she stated.
The NWFL believes taking the Super Six to Port Harcourt aligns with its broader objective of expanding elite women’s football to more parts of the country.
The 2026 Super Six will feature the top three clubs from both regular season groups competing in a round-robin championship format.
Each team will play five matches across nine days, with the overall winner crowned league champions.
Qualified Teams for the 2026 NWFL Super Six
Bayelsa Queens (Defending Champions)
Rivers Angels
Edo Queens
Robo Queens
Nasarawa Amazons
Abia Angels (Debutants)
The lineup combines experienced title contenders with fresh challengers, setting up what promises to be one of the most competitive editions in recent memory.
Particular attention will be on Abia Angels, who make their first-ever appearance in the Super Six.
The NWFL has witnessed remarkable parity in recent years.
The last five editions have produced four different champions:
Rivers Angels (2021)
Bayelsa Queens (2022 & 2025)
Delta Queens (2023)
Edo Queens (2024)
That record highlights the growing competitiveness of women’s football in Nigeria and suggests the 2026 title race could be wide open.
Will defending champions Bayelsa Queens retain their crown? Can Rivers Angels win on home soil? Or could newcomers Abia Angels spring a surprise?
The tournament winner will also earn Nigeria’s ticket to the WAFU-B qualifiers, which serve as the pathway to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Success there could ultimately lead to qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s Club Championship, adding extra importance to every match in Port Harcourt.
The NWFL also unveiled the official programme of activities for the tournament.
