Akeem Busari Headlines Landmark NFCA Ogun Summit as Victor Agbagu Sets Bold Vision for Football Coaching Development

The atmosphere inside the CIBN Banquet Hall at Babcock University was filled with inspiration, ambition, and renewed purpose as over 170 football coaches gathered for the 2026 Leadership Summit organized by the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association.

But beyond the packed hall, keynote sessions, and leadership awards, two names stood at the center of conversations throughout the event,  Akeem Busari and Victor Damilola Agbagu.

Their words, presence, and message of growth, discipline, and professionalism became defining moments of a summit many participants are already describing as transformational for football coaching in Ogun State.

Fresh from his appointment as head coach of the Flamingos, Akeem Busari’s appearance instantly energized the gathering.

Widely respected within Nigerian football circles for his contributions to youth football development, Busari was honoured with a Leadership Award in recognition of his impact on the game and commitment to coaching excellence.

For many young and grassroots coaches present, seeing one of Nigeria’s newest national team coaches share the same platform with them served as motivation and proof that dedication and consistency can open bigger opportunities.

His recognition also reflected the summit’s deeper message, that leadership and development must remain central to the future of Nigerian football.

While Busari inspired with his achievements, newly elected chairman Victor Damilola Agbagu delivered one of the strongest messages of the summit.

Addressing coaches during the event, Agbagu emphasized that modern football coaching now goes far beyond training sessions and matchday tactics.

He challenged coaches to improve their understanding of players’ contracts, football administration, leadership principles, and tactical evolution in order to remain relevant in today’s competitive football environment.

According to him, Nigerian coaches must continue learning, adapting, and developing if they truly want to compete with modern standards across the world.

His speech drew applause from participants, many of whom praised his practical and forward-thinking approach to football leadership.

The one-day summit themed “Igniting Greatness” became far more than a routine football gathering.

It transformed into a platform where coaches exchanged ideas, built relationships, discussed challenges in grassroots football, and explored ways to improve coaching structures within Ogun State and beyond.

The event also featured lectures on leadership development, modern coaching methods, and football administration delivered by respected speakers including Folorunso-Ako E. Oladimeji and former training officer Henry Eniola Oviavwe.

CAF instructor Baba Adeshina was also honoured during the event for his long-standing contributions to football development.

Another memorable moment came when former Ogun State chairman Olaseinde Bankole, popularly known as “Zico,” received a special Leadership Award.

The honour symbolized appreciation for his service and dedication to the association during his time in office.

The recognition created an emotional atmosphere as coaches applauded one of the figures many credited for helping sustain the association’s growth over the years.

With over 170 coaches in attendance, respected football personalities honoured, and strong leadership conversations dominating the summit, the 2026 NFCA Ogun Leadership Summit further confirmed the association’s growing reputation as one of the most active coaching bodies in Nigerian grassroots football.

Many participants left the event convinced that the future of football coaching in Ogun State is heading in a positive direction under leaders focused on growth, education, and professionalism.

And as the curtains closed at Babcock University, one thing became clear, through leaders like Victor Damilola Agbagu and inspirational figures like Akeem Busari, Ogun football coaching is steadily building a future driven by excellence, leadership, and greatness.
