The turmoil surrounding Osun Babes FC has taken another dramatic twist after reports emerged that head coach Bankole Olowookere has stepped down from his role as Technical Adviser of the club.
Olowookere, who was appointed in November 2025, was believed to have resigned over the club’s failure to meet key financial commitments to players and coaching staff. According to reports circulating earlier, the coach had grown frustrated after repeated promises by the club’s management to settle salaries and match bonuses allegedly went unfulfilled despite several appeals.
During his relatively short spell with the club, Olowookere was credited with trying to steady the team on the pitch despite the off-field distractions that have increasingly overshadowed the club’s campaign in the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership.
However, in a swift reaction, the Osun Babes management released a statement disputing the reports of the coach’s resignation.
According to the club hierarchy, the news was first seen on social media, but the club insists it has not officially received any resignation letter from Olowookere.
The club further suggested that if the reports are accurate, it could mean the coach abandoned the team without formal notice, especially after allegedly collecting allowances and benefits for the team’s scheduled match against Dannaz Ladies FC on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Management also insisted that the club does not owe the coach any salary, stating that Olowookere has already received his February salary and is only awaiting payment for March.
The latest dispute between coach and management adds yet another layer to what has been a troubling season for Osun Babes.
In recent months, the club has found itself at the center of multiple controversies that have raised serious concerns about its administrative stability.
Questions had earlier surfaced over the transaction surrounding the club’s acquisition of a NWFL Premiership slot, an issue that sparked public debate within Nigeria’s women’s football community.
The situation worsened when a league fixture against FC Robo Queens failed to kick off after Osun Babes reportedly arrived at the stadium without an alternative set of jerseys to resolve a colour clash. The match was eventually awarded as a walkover, drawing criticism from fans and league observers.
Beyond regulatory sanctions, reports have also circulated regarding outstanding player salaries and match bonuses, a development that has fueled concerns about the welfare of players representing the club.
With each new controversy, Osun Babes appear to be slipping deeper into a reputation crisis that threatens to overshadow their footballing ambitions.
What began as administrative questions has now evolved into a broader narrative of instability from unresolved financial issues to matchday mishaps and now a public dispute involving the club’s head coach.
For a club once considered a competitive side in the NWFL Premiership, the current situation paints a picture of an organization struggling to maintain internal cohesion.
As the league season continues, attention will now shift to how the situation between Olowookere and the club is resolved. Whether the coach formally submits a resignation or returns to the dugout remains unclear.
What is certain, however, is that Osun Babes must quickly address the growing list of crises surrounding the club if they hope to restore stability and protect their standing in Nigeria’s top women’s football league.
Until then, the club remains caught in a cycle of controversy moving from one headline to the next, with questions continuing to mount about its direction and leadership.
