Matchday 10 of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership produced dramatic results across the country, but one of the biggest talking points of the round was the defeat of Osun Babes FC, who fell at home while battling off-field instability.
Still dealing with the fallout of the recent coaching controversy involving Bankole Olowookere, Osun Babes were unable to respond positively on the pitch as they suffered a 0–1 home defeat to Dannaz Ladies FC in Ile-Ogbo.
A late strike from Fausat Idris in the 75th minute proved enough for the Lagos side to claim all three points.
The defeat adds to what has been a turbulent period for Osun Babes, who have recently been embroiled in administrative and financial controversies, leaving the team struggling to find stability both on and off the pitch.
One of the most dominant performances of the matchday came in Benin City where Edo Queens FC dismantled Bayelsa Queens FC 4–1.
Atume Doosuur set the tone early with a goal in the 4th minute before Chioma Moses doubled the lead five minutes later. Doosuur grabbed her second in the 13th minute, while Moses added another in the 30th minute to seal a commanding first-half performance. Kindness Ifeanyi pulled one back for Bayelsa Queens in the 75th minute, but the damage had already been done.
In Lagos, FC Robo Queens secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Sunshine Queens FC thanks to an early strike from Opeyemi Ajakaiye in the 8th minute.
The result strengthens Robo Queens’ push near the top of the standings as the race toward the Super Six stage intensifies.
There were more surprises across other venues.
At Ikenne, Ahudiyannem Queens claimed a 2–1 away victory over Remo Stars Ladies. Uduakobong Monday opened the scoring in the 34th minute before Daniella Fagbenro equalized just before halftime. Mary Lucky eventually restored the visitors’ advantage in the 64th minute.
In Ibadan, Pacesetter Queens defeated Adamawa Queens 2–0 with second-half goals from Hikmat Adewale and Esther Kaase.
Asaba witnessed a balanced contest where Delta Queens FC and Nasarawa Amazons FC played out a 1–1 draw. Anesthesia Terfa gave Delta Queens the lead just before halftime before Ayowunmi Omosuyi equalized shortly after the restart.
In Abeokuta, Ekiti Queens FC secured a solid 2–0 win over Heartland Queens through goals from Kaosarat Olamide Olanrewaju and Amarachi Okoronkwo.
Meanwhile, in Uyo, Ibom Angels FC defeated Naija Ratels FC 3–1 in a lively encounter. Happiness Agboye scored twice while Godsgift Afigbediator converted a penalty to ensure the hosts’ comfortable victory.
In Aba, Confluence Queens snatched a dramatic 2–1 victory over Abia Angels FC with Emmanuel Seember scoring a late winner deep into stoppage time.
While several teams celebrated important victories, the spotlight once again falls on Osun Babes. The club’s defeat at home drag them into the releagtion attle, combined with ongoing internal issues, has raised further concerns about their ability to stabilize their season.
As the NWFL Premiership progresses toward its decisive stages, Osun Babes will need to quickly resolve their off-field challenges if they hope to regain focus and avoid further setbacks in the competition.
