Delta Queens FC have become the first club to make a managerial change in the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season following the dismissal of head coach Keshi Dodo over poor performance and alleged misconduct.
The decision was taken in a swift move by Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, and communicated officially on Tuesday after the club’s disappointing Week 7 home defeat to Abia Angels in Asaba.
Delta Queens fell 1–0 at home to Abia Angels, with Blessing Okon scoring the decisive goal in the 55th minute, a result that proved to be the final straw for the club hierarchy.
According to the club’s Media Officer, Comrade Augustine Akanigha, Coach Dodo’s dismissal was not solely based on results but also on concerns surrounding his conduct within the team environment.
The reasons cited include:
High-handedness in dealing with players and officials
Disregard for constituted authority
Questionable technical depth and tactical direction
Poor performances, culminating in the home loss to Abia Angels
The defeat was particularly damaging given the expectation that Delta Queens would secure maximum points against an opponent viewed as a lower-ranked side.
Following the dismissal, the Delta State Sports Commission has moved quickly to stabilise the team, appointing Coach Maureen Ajibade as the new Head Coach of Delta Queens FC, assisted by Coach Susan Aliyah and Coach Jennifer Ajuyah
The new technical team is expected to restore discipline, improve performances, and steer the club back to competitiveness as the NWFL season progresses.
In a strong statement accompanying the announcement, Hon. Oborevwori issued a firm warning to all players and officials of Delta Queens FC.
He stressed that:
“Any form of indiscipline or conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the team will not be tolerated. Immediate dismissal awaits anyone found wanting.”
This directive underlines the Sports Commission’s intent to rebuild Delta Queens on the pillars of professionalism, respect, and accountability.
Coach Keshi Dodo’s dismissal marks the first managerial sacking of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership season, sending a clear message across the league that poor results and misconduct will not be excused.
As Delta Queens prepare for their next fixtures under new leadership, attention will now shift to how quickly the team can respond on the pitch and regain the confidence of their supporters.
