Judith Chime Championship: The Gold Standard of Grassroots Women’s Football Reaches the Final Stage

The 2025 edition of the Judith Chime Championship has delivered excitement, quality football, and strong competition, as the tournament now heads into its highly anticipated final in Enugu. After weeks of intense action, Rangers Women FC and Awka Angels have booked their places in the final, while Giant Empress secured third place to round off a memorable campaign.

In the first semifinal, Awka Angels defeat Giant Empress 2–0, producing a solid all-round performance to reach the final. Awka Angels combined defensive organisation with quick transitions, frustrating Giant Empress and taking their chances when it mattered most.

The second semifinal saw Rangers Women FC underlined their title credentials with a convincing 3–1 victory over Solo Wonders. The Coal City side showed composure, tactical discipline, and attacking efficiency, qualities that have defined their run throughout the tournament. Their ability to control the tempo of the game and punish mistakes proved decisive, as Solo Wonders struggled to cope with Rangers’ attacking depth and physical presence.

In the third-place playoff, Giant Empress bounced back strongly with a 3–0 win over Solo Wonders, ending their tournament on a high note. The victory highlighted Giant Empress’ resilience and quality, especially after the disappointment of missing out on the final.

As the final approaches, Rangers Women FC stand out as the favourites to lift the trophy. Playing in familiar surroundings and backed by strong home support, Rangers Women have been one of the most consistent teams in the competition. Their attacking firepower, solid midfield structure, and disciplined defence give them a clear edge going into the final.

Beyond tactics, Rangers Women also carry momentum and confidence. Their semifinal performance showed a team peaking at the right time, with players stepping up in key moments. If they maintain the same intensity and focus, they will be difficult to stop in the final.

However, Awka Angels cannot be underestimated. They have shown grit and organisation throughout the tournament and will be motivated to cause an upset. Their challenge will be finding a way to break down Rangers Women while containing their attacking threats.

The championship once again reflects the vision and commitment of Judith Chime, whose efforts continue to reshape women’s football at the grassroots level in Nigeria. The tournament has provided a competitive platform for emerging talents, offered visibility to players and teams, and strengthened the development pathway for women’s football.

Beyond the matches, the championship has recorded several milestones, including increased media attention, improved organisation, and stronger community engagement. These achievements underline Judith Chime’s impact, not just as a former international, but as a developer of the game and a passionate advocate for women’s football growth.

As the tournament reaches its climax, Judith Chime has once again called on corporate bodies, institutions, and football stakeholders to support and sponsor the championship. With proper backing, the competition can expand in scale, improve welfare for players, and further contribute to talent development across Nigeria.

The final is scheduled for Saturday, 20th December, with kickoff set for 12 noon, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Stadium in Enugu. All eyes will be on the pitch as Rangers Women and Awka Angels battle for the ultimate prize, while the Judith Chime Championship continues to strengthen its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most impactful grassroots women’s football tournaments.
