NWFL Modernizes Operations With New Digital Registration Portal

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially entered a new era of professionalism with the launch of its mandatory digital registration and club licensing portal ahead of the 2025/26 Premiership season. The new platform, which becomes fully operational from Friday, November 14, 2025, marks one of the league’s boldest steps toward administrative modernization, transparency, and global alignment.

The announcement was made through the office of the NWFL Media Director, Samuel Ahmadu, confirming the league’s intention to streamline processes that have traditionally been manual, slow, and vulnerable to documentation inconsistencies.

According to Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi, the digital portal represents a complete structural upgrade for Nigerian women’s football administration. She emphasized that the system is built to remove manual delays, cut off paperwork bottlenecks, and provide real-time tracking of all submissions from clubs. The league’s objective is clear: improve efficiency, enhance integrity, and bring the NWFL closer to international standards.

Shabi highlighted that one of the portal’s strongest features is its advanced verification capability, which instantly authenticates documents submitted by clubs and players. This upgrade is expected to drastically reduce long-standing issues such as age falsification, duplicate registration, and irregular player transfers, problems that have repeatedly slowed league growth.

The transition to digital systems was unanimously supported during the recent NWFL Congress in Port Harcourt, where club officials endorsed the migration as a necessary step for strengthening league structures and preparing teams for the evolving landscape of global women’s football.

Under the updated NWFL Registration and Club Licensing Regulations, all Premiership clubs must complete their player registration exclusively through the digital portal between November 14 and November 21, 2025. The league has made it clear that non-compliance will not be tolerated, reinforcing its commitment to accountability.

Mandatory Player Documentation Includes:

National identity verification

Recent passport photographs

Medical fitness reports

Digitally signed contracts

Club Licensing Requirements Cover:

Valid coaching licences

Stadium approval and facility certification

Audited financial records

Verified ownership and administrative documents

Proof of youth development structures

These requirements are designed not only to regulate clubs but to elevate league standards in key areas such as infrastructure, personnel quality, and long-term sustainability.

Beyond improving registration efficiency, the NWFL views this digital transformation as a gateway to enhancing the league’s visibility and commercial appeal. Streamlined data management, verified player records, and transparent administrative workflows are essential components needed to attract sponsors, commercial partners, investors, and international football bodies.

For years, analysts and stakeholders have highlighted the need for Nigerian women’s football to embrace digital solutions that align with successful global leagues. With this new portal, the NWFL signals its readiness to compete on the world stage not only in football talent, but in operational excellence.

The digital platform is also expected to improve long-term tracking of player development, club growth, and league performance metrics valuable tools for scouts, coaches, and data-driven partners.

As the countdown begins to the new season, the launch of the digital portal stands as one of the most forward-thinking reforms in recent NWFL history. It demonstrates the league’s resolve to strengthen its foundations and create a more transparent, accountable, and professional ecosystem for players, clubs, and fans.

With the 2025/26 season approaching, Nigeria’s premier women’s league is not just preparing for kickoff, it is redefining how football administration should operate in a modern era.
