Judith Chime Championship 2025: The Ultimate Women Football Championship

Women’s football in Nigeria continues to evolve rapidly, and while elite competitions like the NWFL Pre-Season Tournament and NWFL leagues receive national buzz, true football development begins at the grassroots. Leading the charge in building Nigeria’s future queens of the game is the Judith Chime Women’s Championship, a prestigious youth and amateur women football tournament that has now grown into the number one grassroots women’s football championship in Nigeria.

With the 2025 edition around the corner, excitement is at an all-time high. The competition has already recorded over 24 registered teams and counting, attracting participants from across Nigeria. From academies, state-based clubs and privately owned women football Clubs, the tournament has become the proving ground for young female talent.

What sets the Judith Chime Championship apart is not just its competitive quality, it is its mission-driven foundation. This tournament was created to bridge the gap between grassroots participation and professional women’s football in Nigeria, offering exposure, structure, and opportunity to girls who often lack access to elite platforms.

In previous editions, standout players caught national attention and progressed to represent Nigeria at top youth levels including the Nigeria U17 Flamingos and U20 Falconets.

This upward pathway has cemented the championship as a credible pipeline for national-team recruitment and scouting.

For many young players, the Judith Chime Championship is not just a tournament, it is their gateway to professional football, scholarships, and national recognition.

The championship carries the name of a living icon, and rightly so. Judith Chime, former goalkeeper for the Nigeria Women’s National Team, is a woman whose career and character continue to inspire a generation.

Judith Chime is a former Nigerian international goalkeeper who represented the Super Falcons with distinction. Known for her composure, reflexes, and leadership between the posts, she featured for Nigeria during some of the national team’s formative competitive years, helping lay the foundation for what has become one of Africa’s most successful women’s football programs.

She features for the Super Falcons at 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2000 Olympics, 1998 and 2000 WAFCON, she was part of the golden generation that kick start the dominance of Super Falcons in Africa.

Beyond her football achievements, Chime has remained an active supporter and advocate for women’s sports development, particularly football. Her passion for empowering young girls, providing platforms for talent, and strengthening the future of women’s football in Nigeria led to the establishment and continued support of this championship.

She continues to inspire not because she is retired, but because she is still contributing, still pushing boundaries, and still championing women’s football development in Nigeria and beyond.

The 2025 edition promises to be the most exciting yet.

This year edition will have media teams and scouts on ground, ensuring every player has a chance to shine. This year’s edition will spotlight not just talent, but also the stories and grit behind every young woman fighting for her dream.

At its core, the Judith Chime Championship is not just building athletes, it is building confidence, leadership, and hope. It brings communities together, encourages gender inclusion in sports, and showcases the enormous potential lying across Nigeria’s grassroots football ecosystem.
