It was an early morning to remember at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium as Wazbak International defeated Ijamido Queens 4–3 on penalties to win the WAFA League Super 8 Championship, after a tense 0–0 draw in regulation time.
The final match lived up to its billing, filled with intensity, skill, and tactical discipline from both sides. Fans who arrived early in Ijebu-Ode witnessed one of the most exciting grassroots women’s football encounters of the year.
Both teams started brightly, showing their hunger for the trophy. Ijamido Queens dominated possession early, stringing passes across the midfield and pushing Wazbak’s defense to the limit. However, Wazbak International’s goalkeeper stood firm, arranging and controlling her defence line properly and pulling off some series of crucial saves to keep her side in the game.
Wazbak’s attacking duo came close on the counter several times, forcing Ijamido’s defense into last-minute clearances. The first half ended goalless, but the energy on the pitch never dropped.
The second half saw more end-to-end action, crunching tackles, tactical adjustments, and moments of brilliance that kept fans on their feet. Despite numerous attempts, neither side could break the deadlock, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
The tension inside the stadium was palpable as both teams lined up for the shootout. Wazbak International and Ijamido Queens converted two out of five penalties, while Ijamido Queens missed the seventh kick of the penalty shootout with a briliant save from wazbak Int'l goalkeeper.
The decisive moment came when Wazbak’s player stepped up and calmly buried the final seventh spot-kick, sealing a 4–3 victory and sparking wild celebrations among teammates, coaches, and supporters.
The WAFA League Super 8 Final once again showcased the talent and passion within Nigeria’s women’s football scene. The early morning kickoff didn’t stop fans, scouts, and media from filling the stands at Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, which has become a hub for grassroots football excellence in the South West.
With this victory, Wazbak International officially crown themselves WAFA League Super 8 Champions 2025, writing their name into the history books and setting a new standard for determination and teamwork in women’s football.
