The heartbeat of women’s football in Nigeria will shift to the city of Port Harcourt as the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) holds its 2025 Annual General Assembly (AGA) on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
The gathering, confirmed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Modupe Shabi, promises to be one of the most defining moments for women’s football in the country, setting the tone for the 2025/2026 league season.
According to Ms. Shabi, the AGA will bring together Chairmen and General Managers of NWFL Premiership and Championship clubs, alongside key stakeholders and administrators, to review the past season and chart a new course for the game’s development.
Delegates are expected to arrive in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, October 28, ahead of the main congress scheduled for the following day.
One of the major highlights of the Assembly will be the official announcement of the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership kick-off date and the much-anticipated Premiership Draw, which will unveil the fixtures for the new campaign.
The NWFL Annual General Assembly remains the highest decision-making platform of the league body, a forum where club owners, executives, and football leaders deliberate on reforms, policies, and innovations to strengthen the women’s game nationwide.
In Ms. Shabi’s words:
> “The AGA will offer an opportunity for fruitful deliberations as we collectively advance the growth and development of women’s football in Nigeria.”
The NWFL COO also expressed confidence that Port Harcourt will deliver a smooth and memorable hosting experience for all participants, emphasizing the importance of collaboration as women’s football continues to grow in visibility and value across the country.
Preparations for the 2025/2026 season are already in top gear following the conclusion of the last campaign, which saw Bayelsa Queens lift their record sixth Premiership title after emerging champions at the Super Six in Ikenne.
Promoted to the NWFL Premiership are Sunshine Queens (Ondo), Castmog Ladies (Ogun), Ahudiyannem Queens (Abia), and Imo Striker Queens (Imo), expanding the top flight to 20 teams.
In the Championship division, DreamStar Ladies (Lagos) make a triumphant return, while Rangers Women (Enugu), Rosaria Victrix (Imo), and Solo Wonders (Akwa Ibom) will all make their debut appearances.
These additions signal a new era of competition, diversity, and opportunity for women’s football across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
With the 2025 AGA now officially set for Port Harcourt, all eyes will be on the discussions and resolutions that will shape the future of the NWFL from player welfare and club licensing to broadcast partnerships and grassroots integration.
As women’s football continues to gain national and continental attention, the 2025 Assembly will serve as both a reflection of how far the league has come and a launchpad for what lies ahead.
