Abuja Set for NWFL Nationwide 2025 as Kickoff Date & Fixtures Drop

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially announced a fresh kickoff date, venue, and full schedule for the 2025 NWFL Nationwide Championship. The grassroots women’s football competition will now run from October 10 to 17, 2025, at the Bwari Township Stadium in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi, the Nationwide Championship continues to be a crucial stage for emerging clubs to showcase their potential and climb up the women’s football ladder in Nigeria.

> “The Nationwide competition remains a vital platform for clubs across the country to showcase their potential and progress through the league system. We are committed to ensuring it is competitive, transparent, and successful,” Shabi said during the announcement on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The 2025 edition will feature 10 clubs, divided into two groups of five, with the top two teams from each group earning promotion to the NWFL Championship.

October 10 – Teams’ arrival & pre-match technical meeting

October 11 – Opening matches

October 12 – Rest day

October 13–14 – Group stage fixtures continue

October 15 – Rest day

October 16–17 – Final fixtures & closing games

The NWFL Nationwide is not just another football competition, it’s the gateway to professional women’s football in Nigeria. Over the years, many clubs and players who began their journey here have risen to the NWFL Premiership and even the Super Falcons.

Shabi stressed this in her remarks:

> “At the end of the tournament, the two best teams from each group will be promoted to the NWFL Championship, which is a huge motivation for all the participating clubs.”
