Exclusive: Wazbak International Target NWFL Promotion, Praise Online Draw Initiative

As the countdown to the 2025 NWFL Championship begins, participating clubs are setting their sights on promotion to the NWFL Premiership. One of those ambitious sides is Wazbak International,  based in Lagos, who believe that despite challenges, this season could be their breakthrough year.

In an exclusive interview with Coach Adeniyi Wasiu Adekola, The Head Coach of Wazbak International, we explored the team’s mission, the setbacks they’ve faced in preseason, and how the recently conducted online draw has boosted their confidence heading into the campaign.

When asked about the club’s overall mission, Coach Wasiu was clear:

Our club mission is to get promoted to the NWFL Premier League. Long term, our goal is to become one of the best women’s teams in Nigeria, producing players for the national team and providing platforms for them abroad.”

That hunger for growth separates Wazbak International from many competitors, especially as they continue to rely heavily on youthful players who have been groomed from a young age.

While many Championship clubs balance seasoned veterans with younger stars, Wazbak International  stand out for being built almost entirely around youth.

We’re a very young female team compared to others,” Coach Wasiu explained.

Most of our players are still very young. For some, this will be their first experience in the league, while only a few are here for the second time.

The lack of veterans may be a risk, but the management sees it as part of a long-term vision to develop players and shape them into future stars.

Preparation for the 2025 season has not been without hurdles. In fact, preseason turned out to be far more difficult than expected.

It hasn’t gone as planned because we’re facing a lot of injury challenges right now,” Coach Wasiu revealed.

“Seven of our first-team players won’t be able to play this season after picking up serious injuries in preseason, even though they were already registered for the league.”

Despite this, the team has worked to strengthen key areas, particularly the attacking line, as they prepare to face strong opposition in their group.

When asked about the club’s playing style, Coach Wasiu was direct:

We’re building on positional play and intense pressing.”

And motivation? That comes from the strong bond within the squad. Many of the players have been together since they were eight years old, which makes them more than just teammates.

We motivate them by keeping our promises and celebrating every victory together.”

That unity extends to the fan base, too. “We play through our fans,” Coach Wasiu added.

Even when results don’t go our way, they keep cheering us on. We love them, and we keep them engaged by bringing football closer to them.”

One of the most significant talking points this year was the NWFL’s decision to conduct the group draw online. For Wazbak International, it was a welcome initiative.

It was a good one because it gives us the chance to plan ahead and know our destination before leaving our state,”

The draw placed Wazbak International in a competitive but fair group.

The draws were fair to us, and it didn’t change our aim of promotion,” Coach Wasiu insisted. “All three clubs in our group are strong sides, but we’re ready to give everything and fight for every point needed.”

When asked about the club’s ultimate goal for the season, the response was immediate and unflinching:

Promotion. That’s our target, alongside developing the players for the next big stage.”

Still, Coach acknowledged the challenges of competing against better-funded, government-backed clubs.

“They have all the support they need, which makes them tough opponents. But we’re prepared to fight.”

Despite the injuries, despite the resource challenges, Wazbak International are determined to make their supporters proud.

“We believe in you as much as you believe in us. We promise to make you proud this season,” [Your Name] concluded.

With ambition, resilience, and the energy of youth on their side, [Club Name] will step into the 2025 NWFL Championship ready to chase their Premiership dream. And if their words are anything to go by, they’re not just showing up — they’re showing up to win.
