Gateway United FC Confirmed for NNL After E-World United Buyout

Ogun State’s pride, Gateway United FC, are officially back in the Nigeria National League (NNL) following the acquisition of newly promoted E-World United FC of Calabar.

The Abeokuta-based side had endured a painful relegation to the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) last season, ending a remarkable 16-year stay in the second tier. But with this buyout, Gateway United will not have to wait long for a return, as they reclaim their slot in the NNL ahead of the 2025/26 season.

For fans across Abeokuta and Ogun State, the news comes as a major relief. The club’s absence from the NNL was set to leave a vacuum in the state’s football scene, but their swift comeback restores the state’s representation in Nigeria’s second division.

With the deal secured, focus now shifts to preparations for the new season. The management must rebuild quickly, strengthen the squad, and set fresh ambitions, not just to remain in the NNL but to push towards the elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the near future.

For now, however, the return itself is a big victory for fans who have stood by the team through thick and thin.
