Wasinmi SSC 2025: Nigeria’s Biggest Grassroots Football Carnival Welcomes Teams Ahead of Youth & Female Kickoff
The Wasinmi Summer Soccer Championship 2025 entered a new and exciting phase today, Thursday, July 31st, as the town of Wasinmi officially welcomed players and teams for the much-anticipated youth and female categories of this year’s tournament.
With the successful completion of team accreditation, the stage is now fully set for one of the most authentic grassroots football festivals in Nigeria to continue its mission of talent discovery, sports education, and community development.
What began as a small neighborhood football competition has now become a national grassroots movement, with the Wasinmi Summer Soccer Championship attracting attention from scouts, academies, sports media, and youth development stakeholders across the country.
This year’s edition features over 100 registered teams across six categories: Men Free Age, U10, U13, U15, U17, and Women Free Age categories
Having already witnessed thrilling action in the Male Free Age category, which kicked off on Monday, July 28, all eyes are now on the underage and female competitions starting Sunday, August 3rd, with the official opening ceremony scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd.
The accreditation event held earlier today was one of the most well-organized in the competition’s 8-year history.
Coaches and players, lined up early as tournament officials carried out biometric checks, age verification, and identity documentation for all youth and female players.
While preparations were ongoing for the underage and Women kickoff, the Men Free Age Category continued to produce quality football. Matchday 2, which was played yesterday, saw Chosen Generation FC become the first team to qualify for the semifinals after an impressive 4–1 win over Santos SA
Now sitting on six points from two matches, the team has confirmed their place in the knockout phase with one game to spare.
With Matchday 3 coming up on Friday, three semifinal slots are still up for grabs.
As of today, teams in the U10, U13, U15, U17, and Women categories have begun arriving at their designated accommodation centers. Training sessions and familiarization with the SOCA Field, United Comprehensive High School, Baptist Primary School Field and other venues are expected to begin tomorrow with the screening exercise of all underage categories slated to hold tomorrow morning 1st of August.
The opening ceremony on Saturday, August 2nd, will feature a welcome parade, cultural display, motivational talks, and short exhibitions.
The kickoff on Sunday will begin with back-to-back youth matches, with fixtures set to be released by Friday evening after the screening exercise.
As the championship progresses through the group stages, all categories will gear toward the grand finals scheduled for Saturday, August 9th and Sunday, August 10th. The final days will be packed with games, award presentations, talent identification announcements, and scouting opportunities for deserving players.
