SOCA Partners with WSSC 2025 to Award Full Scholarships to Female Footballers

In a powerful move to support the dreams of young female footballers, the Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy (SOCA) has announced a special collaboration with the Wasimi Summer Soccer Championship (WSSC) 2025. Through this partnership, two full scholarships will be awarded to outstanding female players who participate in this year’s edition of the grassroots football tournament.

This bold initiative signals a turning point for grassroots girls' football in Nigeria and beyond, offering talented players the rare opportunity to combine elite football training with top-quality education completely free of charge.

For years, young girls with natural football talent have faced major barriers lack of exposure, financial constraints, and limited support. But now, WSSC 2025 becomes more than just a summer competition. With SOCA, it’s a gateway to transformation.

The two full scholarships on offer will cover academic tuition, accommodation, feeding, and football development at SOCA for the entire 2025/2026 academic session. This includes full boarding and structured football education in one of Nigeria’s premier sports and academics institutions founded by the legendary Segun Odegbami, a former Super Eagles star.

The Wasimi Summer Soccer Championship, held annually in the football-loving community of Wasimi, Abeokuta, is already known for its role in discovering and nurturing grassroots talent. With categories for both boys and girls, the 2025 edition promises to be even more exciting, as all eyes will be on the girls’ division the new hunting ground for SOCA scouts.

Organizers have confirmed that female participation is a top priority this year, with specific matches scheduled and monitored to ensure every young girl has a fair shot at being seen.

To be considered for one of the two full SOCA scholarships, a player must meet the following criteria:

Be female, within the typical school age range of 11 to 16 years old.

Be registered and actively participating in the WSSC 2025 girls’ category.

Show exceptional performance on the pitch including skills, discipline, teamwork, and attitude.

The selection will be purely merit-based, with SOCA coaches and talent scouts attending the games to identify promising candidates.

Parents, guardians, and grassroots coaches are strongly encouraged to register their female players and prepare them for this unique opportunity.

The Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy (SOCA) isn’t your typical school. Located in Wasimi-Orile, Ogun State, it’s a purpose-built institution combining world class sports training with high standard academics. It was established to raise student athletes who can excel in both education and professional sports locally and internationally.

For the selected girls, it means they’ll receive structured education during the day and professional football coaching in the evenings all under one roof, in a safe, disciplined environment.

This scholarship doesn’t just lighten financial burdens. It rewrites the story for young girls who might never have imagined they could attend a private sports academy without spending a kobo.

Registration for the Wasimi Summer Soccer Championship 2025 is currently ongoing. Coaches, parents, and teams can register by contacting the organizers through local sports coordinators or via their verified social media handles or call/WhatsApp Coach Victor Agbagu on 08038548716

Slots for female teams are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

With this collaboration between SOCA and WSSC, grassroots female football in Nigeria has taken a bold leap forward. The two scholarships are more than rewards they’re investments in the future of the game, in the potential of the girl child, and in the power of education through sport.

If you know a girl who dreams of being the next Asisat Oshoala, this is her moment.
